First aid
Eye Injuries
Squinting, a watery or red eye, pawing at the face.

Call your vet today. These steps help in the meantime; your vet should still see your dog.
What to do
- Stop them rubbing: a cone helps
- Gently flush with saline or clean, cool water to rinse out grit
- Cover with a damp, clean cloth if the eye is injured
- Call your vet the same day: eyes can get worse fast
Emergency if
- The eye is bulging out of the socket
- Something is stuck in the eye: don't pull it out
